FEAR NOT! GOD IS IN CONTROL.

FEAR NOT! GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Fear….., what is fear?

Fear can be described as a feeling of danger, threat, panic or anxiety that arises as a result of what happens around us or what is happening within us (in our minds). The most important point however is this; fear, that feeling, that emotion, is not of God.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

God did not create us to be fearful of life, of sickness, of terror or of the unknown. Over fear, God has given us POWER, LOVE and A SOUND MIND. Yet the world is a scary place and the things happening in the world are allowing fear to abound in our hearts and minds. But note that it is promised to us that God will never leave us.

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”  Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV

We should know that whatever happens, whatever may be, God is our Father, He will not fail, He will never leave us or forsake us.

How then can we dwell on God in the midst of fear and adversity? We can do this by fasting and prayer, reading the word of God and fellowshipping.

Fasting is truly amazing, though it is completely different from prayer, they always go hand in hand. Fasting is basically denying the flesh in order for the spirit to grow. To allow the period of fasting to be fruitful and meaningful it is necessary to pray in order to mature. When we pray, we should pour out our heart to God and allow Him to speak to us. It also says in Psalms 53:22 to cast our burdens upon the Lord. So those things that discourage us and are a burden to us we should let Him know. God is here for us through it all, He is not going anywhere and He can never fail us. All we need to do is call upon Him and talk to Him.

Psalms 27:1 (KJV) tells us, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Another way to overcome fear is by reading the word of God.

Psalms 119:105 (KJV) says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” So how then do we want to walk in this world if we are not guided by the Word of God? The word guides us and not only that it will encourage us and give us hope in the time of need and always.

Psalms 91 goes into detail of how we should not be fearful. It is a good read, something that can be done in our private time. Verse 5 tells us not to be afraid. Psalms 91 lets us know that things will happen, evil may lurk around but they will not affect us, they will not come near us. But first it is important that we dwell in “the secret place of the most High.” It is necessary to read, understand and know the word. We should have it at our fingertips so if ever we are confronted by fear we can take it down immediately.

Lastly, we need to fellowship with the body of Christ in order to overcome fear. It is necessary that we fellowship with others who are like minded in Christ, whether in church services, prayer meetings or with friends and family. Fellowshipping with people allows us and others to grow in Christ, it also lets us know that we are not alone. Provers 21:17 (KJV) says “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” We do not have to live in fear or walk alone, we are surrounded by brothers and sisters in Christ who can encourage us and walk with us. You are never alone!

To close I will leave this in your hearts, Romans 8:31 (KJV) “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
