KNOW THE FATHER’S LOVE
KNOW THE FATHER’S LOVE
A few weeks ago while I was in the kitchen sorting something out, I could faintly hear my son and his dad chatting and giggling in the living room. The next thing I heard my son say was “Daddy, you are not my friend again” and playfully daddy began to cry and this “crying” went on for a while. As I stepped out of the kitchen I saw my son starting to hug his dad and say “Sorry, daddy, I love you daddy.” Over and over again, he kept saying “I love you daddy”, until daddy cheered up, returned the hug and they were best of friends again.
I looked at my son and I thought, wow! this child definitely knows something. He knew that if he kept telling his dad “I love you” and dad was sure that he was loved, then everything would be fine. That dad would not be sad again and would stop crying because he knew he was loved. This is deep. It seems my son believed that love would solve the problem with his dad. And this is exactly how I believe God wants us to be with Him. If we know that God loves us we should know that everything will be ok.
When we know we are loved, there is a confidence that comes from that knowledge. There is an extra bounce in our step and an assurance that someone has our back. We believe that we can call them and they will always be there for us never letting us down. This is probably the reason why it is devastating when one finds out that a partner is cheating or when one is jilted. The action of jilting one’s partner does not connote love. Neither does that of a cheating partner. But look at children who have the assurance of their parents love; most will tell you that because of the knowledge of that love they rarely feel afraid to try out new things. They know mum or dad would be there to help them through any challenges they come up against.
I am convinced that this is the kind of relationship God wants to have with us. After all He is our Heavenly Father. He wants us to be assured that He loves us every which way. How deep, how wide and how high is that love! “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8: 39 NIV This is truly mind blowing. That NOTHING can stand as an obstacle to God’s love for us. Can we then really allow ourselves to be conscious of this truth? Can we believe it with everything we are? We need to begin to come to God like children again. If He says it in His word let us just believe it already. Let us stop trying to reason it. When we tell our children we love them, they do not question how, when or why we love them. They just accept it and do not doubt it.
Our Heavenly Father loves us very much. That can never be over emphasized. “Some time ago, the Lord appeared to me to say: Israel, I will always love you; that’s why I’ve been so patient and kind.” Jeremiah 31: 3 Contemporary English Version Because He loves us, He is extremely patient with us. “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime;” Psalms 30: 5a NIV God’s love for us is not a temporary affair. It is an everlasting love. It is a love that made Him give His only Son, Jesus to die for our sins. It is a love that compares to no other.
Knowing that God loves us is to know that He will never let any evil come to us.
Knowing that God loves us is to be assured that He has our back.
Knowing that God loves us is to put a spring in our step and a smile on our face.
Knowing that God loves us is to know that ALL WILL BE WELL.
LET US KNOW THE FATHER’S LOVE, IT WILL DO US GOOD!
