HE NAILED IT (TO THE CROSS)
Have you ever heard the expression “They nailed it?” It is an expression in the English language that is used to convey the successful, skillful or perfect completion of a particularly challenging task. It is not uncommon to see people excited, shouting and even sometimes jumping for joy and celebrating after closing a deal, passing an examination, scoring a goal at a football match or winning a tournament saying they “nailed it.”
As believers today, this should be our posture. We ought to be filled with unspeakable joy knowing that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who was crucified, who died and was buried, rose from the dead and is alive now and forever. Hallelluyah!! We should also be excited and jubilating knowing that the expression “nailed it” has a more profound meaning for us.
Jesus literally “nailed it”. He successfully, perfectly completed the “Assignment” of God the Father, which was to redeem and save mankind and to reconcile us back to God. You see, sin had separated us from God and the justice of God demanded that the soul that sinned should die. So the “Assignment” was to come to earth as man and die in our place for all our sins: past, present and future. But before His death on the cross, He had to pass through the whipping post where His body would be scourged. The scourging of the body of Jesus was to make our own bodies whole and free from sickness and disease. “But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NLT Everything that Jesus went through from the whipping post, to the cross, to the grave and even His resurrection was all for us.
Though He was God, (the Son) He was fully man and it was not easy for Him to endure all the suffering and the horror of the crucifixion that He knew He had to face. He said “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Luke 22:42 NLT And while praying for strength to go through the ordeal, we are told that He began to sweat blood, an extremely rare clinical phenomenon called hematohidrosis, which is made possible when one is under intense physical or psychological stress. “And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” Luke 22:44 KJV Sadly this was the path our Saviour had to walk; this was the two-fold sacrifice He had to make for us yet He went through all of this because of the love He has for us all. “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8 NLT
In conclusion, God knew that it would be impossible for man to keep the Law of Moses and each time we fell short a charge sheet was brought up against us telling God that we deserved to die. Therefore Jesus put an end to all those charges against us by going to death in our place. “God wiped out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses, He took them away and nailed them to the cross.” Colossians 2:14 Contemporary English Version
Dear friend, JESUS NAILED IT!!! It is just as simple as that. That is worthy of gratitude and celebration. Let us celebrate our Saviour and Redeemer, Jesus!
