LET IT FLY
LET IT FLY
Have you ever watched a kite fly? I once watched a movie where there was a kite flying competition. It was a real beauty to behold. The splendour on display was spectacular. Kite flying is a phenomenon that dates back to centuries and history has it that it is of Chinese origin and was subsequently made popular in other Asian countries like Korea and Japan. Incidentally, the month of April is celebrated as National Kite Month in America as designated by the American Kitefliers Association.
Without any doubt, it is the destiny of a kite to fly. It does not serve the kite-flier well if they just hold on to their very beautifully designed kite and keep staring at it. That will not do. The beauty of a kite is when it is flying high in the sky and people around can appreciate its splendour.
Most of us are blessed with great gifts and talents. Yet sadly, like a kite whose nose is buried in the sand because we do not want it to fly, we bury our gifts. As it is often said, one cannot eat their cake and have it; it is not possible to be holding on to our gifts and letting them fly at the same time. We must do one or the other. Hear what the bible says: “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others. That they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:15-16 NIV Light brings illumination to everyone around it. Once a lamp is lit, or a gift is used it is always for the benefit of others.
I am certain we have heard it said of a new business idea or a start up “It will fly!” This simply means it will be successful; and that is another word for prosperous. God wants us to prosper in everything we do. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2 KJV Our success (and our health) are so important to God that they are on His list of things that are priority.
Oftentimes when we give gifts to others, we see their faces light up in delight and pleasure. Our gifts and talents are exactly like that. When we use them appropriately they bring joy, pleasure and illumination to those who are beneficiaries. Remember when they bring illumination, others see and give glory to our Heavenly Father.
Dear friend, what gift are you holding on to? When it comes to using that gift we cannot afford to allow fear or timidity stand as an obstacle. Every gift is for a purpose but the ultimate end is to impact others with the light of that gift. Perhaps what you are holding back is the illumination your marriage, your children or maybe even your community need at a time like this. Some of us have buried our talents that should be making global impact. It is time to let those gifts fly. When they fly they are seen beyond the spaces that we inhabit.
At the end of a kite flight, the kite spool is gently turned in using a hand over hand roll, thus bringing the kite back to rest. The kites are cleaned up and stored away carefully till the next flight. Some kite fliers reinforce their kites before the next flight to ensure they get a good flight. In comparison our gifts should be honed and developed periodically when not in use so as to ensure that we are always flight ready.
IT’S TIME TO LET GO OF THAT GIFT OR TALENT AND LET IT FLY!
