THE GIFT OF WRITING

THE GIFT OF WRITING 2

The Gift of Writing is a very insightful and inspiring book written by Oluyinka Ego-Martins (that’s me) and available for purchase on Selar.co.  (https://selar.co/h5993q)

Today, I have come to encourage us to write. It is a habit that will help us through life.

One day while thinking about this book that I had written, the LORD reminded me of Mordecai. How did Mordecai come to be favoured and honoured by the king Ahasuerus?

Mordecai had uncovered a plot by two of the palace guards, to kill the king. Mordecai reported this and the two culprits were apprehended before they could hatch their evil plan. This good deed of Mordecai’s was recorded and that was where it ended. And then, one night the king could not sleep and was led to read the books of the kings where he discovered what had been written about the good deed Mordecai had done. If nothing had been written at that time would Mordecai have been remembered and honoured? Maybe not. On reading about what Mordecai did, the king asked what had been done to reward or honour him and when he learnt nothing had been done, the king himself proceeded to honour him specially.

God encourages us to write. If you are a writer like me, you are like our Heavenly Father who wrote the ten commandments on a tablet of stone. “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.” Exodus 17:14 NIV  When we write, it helps us to remember. The human memory is not perfect. It is prone to errors and can be influenced by our emotions, stress levels and time. For this reason, God made sure certain things were written. When things are not written, they eventually get distorted somewhere along the line.

See what kings were asked to do in the old testament: “And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.Deuteronomy 17:18-20 NIV    Kings had to hand write the copy of the Torah as a way to help them remember it and be obedient to the laws therein.

Writing helps to record and preserve information. Some of such information could be life changing. When Jesus came to earth, we see that He went fasting (praying and possibly meditating on scripture) for forty days. As a result of what He had read and committed to memory, He was able to overcome Satan’s temptation by simply saying what He had read. “And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4: 3-4 KJV.  Clearly Satan is overcome if we speak what is written in scripture to him. He cannot contest scripture so he just goes away. And it is written :   “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”  Revelation 12:11 KJV

We must learn to write, to take time to jot down our thoughts and we just might discover patterns when we start doing this. Such patterns might help to discover the solution to a problem. This is how scientists record empirical data which they use to prove or disprove a hypothesis.

Writing is for us to learn. “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” Romans 15:4 NLT.  Without what is written in scripture to encourage us, we will be hopeless and destined for doom.

It is good to write.

It is better if we make a habit of it.

It is best if others can learn from what we write.

Thank God for the Gift of Writing.
