TREASURES KEPT IN THE HEART
TREASURES KEPT IN THE HEART
Hannah was excited.
She could hardly keep it to herself.
She knew God loved her but this.. this revelation was all the confirmation she needed.
What manner of love this was!
She was in such awe.
She reached for her phone and started calling her bestie when suddenly she had a check in her spirit.
Hold on!
She paused then blinked.
Going back to her phone she was about to dial when she felt the nudge again.
Hold on!
She was not mistaken. She had heard right the first time. And she knew that it was not yet time to share her news with anyone.
She whispered a quiet
“Thank you ABBA.”
Dear friends, not every revelation from God is meant for immediate announcement. Some are meant to be carried, pondered, and allowed to unfold in God’s time. For it is written: “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:” Ecclesiastes 3:11a KJV If we push it out there too early it could be corrupted or even destroyed.
Sometimes God reveals something to us that is too sacred to be rushed into words. Our first instinct may be to share it immediately, to announce it or to explain it. Yet Scripture shows us that some revelations are meant to be carried quietly for a season. They are not hidden out of fear, but guarded with reverence—allowed to deepen within us until their meaning becomes clear and their fruit begins to appear.
Hannah, in the short excerpt above, had done the very best thing by refraining from making the call as directed by the Holy Spirit. She is in very good company to have held back her news despite her excitement.
Here are a few people in Scripture who did just that, who held back on sharing and spreading their news or revelation prematurely.
Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist went into hiding after she conceived. “After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.” Luke 1:24 NIV This must have been to protect her miraculous unexpected pregnancy. Some things are meant to be carried quietly until the season when what was hidden becomes evident.
After extraordinary events surrounding the conception, the birth and early life of Jesus Christ, Mary, his mother, did not rush to interpret and share everything that had been revealed to her. Besides going to visit her senior cousin Elizabeth as told to her by the Angel Gabriel, she kept everything and did not stop thinking about them.
“But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 KJV
At the age of twelve, Jesus and His family went to Jerusalem for the Passover. Unknown to His parents, Jesus had stayed back in the temple sitting in the midst of the doctors while His parents were looking for Him. When they found Him, His response to them was that He was about His Father’s business. This made Mary thoughtful.
“And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.” Luke 2:51 KJV
There was a prophet in the old testament named Daniel. He had received a troubling vision and was asked by God to keep it under wraps. “Daniel, I now command you to keep the message of this book secret until the end of time, even though many people will go everywhere, searching for the knowledge to be found in it.” Daniel 12:4 CEV
This is a reminder that sometimes the wisest response to a revelation from God is not immediate proclamation, but quiet meditation until the right time comes.
Premature exposure can:
Invite misunderstanding,
Attract opposition,
Or even weaken what is still forming.
Not every seed God plants in our hearts is meant to be spoken at exactly the time it is received. Seeds need time to grow and they grow best in the dark, quiet places where they are buried, before they appear in the open, where their life becomes visible.
Perhaps God has also placed something in your heart—a word, a promise, an understanding that came quietly during prayer, worship, or meditation on Scripture. The natural temptation may be to speak about it immediately or to seek confirmation from others. Yet there are moments when the Holy Spirit gently invites us to simply hold what we have received with reverence. (Just like He told Hannah, “Hold On!”)
For someone out there, it is possible that God has entrusted you with something that is meant, at least for now, to be pondered rather than proclaimed.
Please give that revelation time to mature.(In silence.)
And carry it quietly until the season comes when what was hidden will be seen by all.
KEEP THAT TREASURE IN YOUR HEART!
