ABBA’S SIGNATURE

ABBA’S SIGNATURE

Banke got out of bed like she always did and immediately knelt down on that (flattened) throw pillow beside her bed. Years of kneeling on it had made it flat but she was so used to it she hardly noticed how flat it had become.

That morning she decided to put away all anxiety and focus on God’s goodness towards her. The first person she thought about was her daughter and she just could not stop the smile that spread accross her face. What a blessing she was! A precious and priceless gift that God had blessed her and her husband with.

You see, Banke had been a matured single who had almost given up on marriage then God brought her husband to her when she was close to fifty. Then waiting on the LORD for the fruit of the womb was another challenge she had to go through. Yet once again, God showed Himself faithful when she had her daughter about six years into her marriage.

Banke had never been able to talk about her child bearing experience. She remembers a period that was greatly characterised by fear and anxiety as she was considered high risk. She was so afraid that she went into emotional shock a few days before her child was born. She just could not help herself. She became overwhelmed with all kinds of negative thoughts. She lived in a constant state of worry. She lived in a place where she thought everything would go wrong. Still inspite of all her anxiety God walked with her and held her hand during her passage through the valley of the shadow of death.

So that morning as Banke thought about her daughter, she realised that God’s signature was all over her life. A signature could be said to be a distinctive mark, characteristic or trait that identifies a person.  And as Banke began to search her mind she found so many instances where God’s signature had bailed her out. Who was she that God was mindful of her? She thought, as she lay flat in worship to her ABBA. She saw God’s signature of love, mercy, grace and kindness. She was a living recipient. She saw how He so graciously, mercifully, kindly and lovingly bestowed gift after gift upon her, especially when she was so undeserving. She began to thank God. And as she continued in worship, she knew all would be well.  She knew God would come through for her yet again. He had never failed her. And He was not about to do so now. His signature was there all over her life, her marriage, her family, her business. She could not miss it.

And with that, Banke picked herself up with the confidence and assurance of one who knew her God. “Let the exploits begin.” she whispered.

ABBA ‘s signature would get her through.

Dear friends, like Banke, I am certain we can identify God’s signature in many areas of our lives if not all. Just take a look around us and identify God’s signature as He has presented Himself to us in the past and even now.

Look at our being alive. That’s His signature for sure. The devil does not want us waking up at all. Look at our homes, families, jobs, businesses; His signature is everywhere.

Our lives might not be that perfectly painted picture right now but honestly there is so much to be grateful for.

God’s character traits are His signature.

God is compassionate. “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” Psalm 103:8 NIV

God is faithful. “great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23b NIV

God is good. “The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” Psalm 145:9 NIV

God is gracious. “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.” Isaiah 30:18a NIV

God is kind. “For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.” Psalm 117:2 KJV

God is love/loving. “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8 NIV

God is merciful. “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:36 NIV

When we look around and see ABBA’s signature in all that He has already done and all that He is doing for us, let us be assured that all will be well.
