JESUS; MORE THAN A SUPER HERO

JESUS; MORE THAN A SUPER HERO
I am truly grateful and thankful for the gift, the honour and the privilege of motherhood. As a writer, I get a lot of inspiration from quality time spent with my son.
Bath time, for example, is always “mummy and me” time with my son. At that time, my phone goes into flight mode. Let everything else wait. This young man needs my undivided attention.
On one of such occasions, my son told me that he wanted to be a beach life guard. And I immediately told him that it could not work. Of course, like every mother I want so much more for my son. I told him that he would go for extended periods of time without work (and money) as people are not running to the beach in cold weather and on rainy days. Then he said to me that he wanted to help people so he would be a super hero. And then, I quickly told him that Superheroes were not real. My son was not dissuaded at all. He said to me “But Mama, Jesus is always helping people, so he must be a super hero and I want to be just like Him.”
I was gobsmacked! And this got me thinking for a while. Honestly we should pay more attention to the Word of God. It is written thus:
“At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.” Matthew 11:25 NIV
The above scripture is very clear that God reveals things to children or those who are childlike, that He would not reveal to those who think they are wise. Wooow!! So our regular superheroes who wear capes and hide their identity like Spiderman, Superman, or Batman typically use their supernatural powers to help people in distress, save them from villains and make their communities safer places to live. And having watched a few of these, my son likens them and their good deeds to Jesus who is always doing good and helping others as he has been taught.
“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15 NIV Another scripture similar to the first one referenced before has Jesus telling his disciples that to come to God, we must come depending, looking up to and trusting Him completely just the way children do. (with their parents.) After all, God is our Heavenly Father and we must see Him as that and relate to Him as such. We must never think of Him as someone who wants to punish us as soon as we err. That can never be our ABBA. He loves us. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 NIV
So back to our bathtime chat, my son insisted that he wants to be like Jesus. He wants to help people get out of trouble. He wants to rescue them from bad things that want to happen to them. That is what Superheroes do. And at that point I begin to pronounce blessings upon him. He will fufill his destiny in Jesus name.
Dear friends, though my son said Jesus is our Superhero, I say; He is so much more. He is our Saviour, our Redeemer. He is our ever present help. He gave His very life for us. He is our light in this dark world, He is our Glory, He is the lifter of our heads, He is our shield and our exceeding great reward.
He took our place in suffering, in shame, in disgrace, in pain, in sickness and in disease. We must no longer be in those places.
We are free.
“JESUS: OUR MORE THAN A SUPER HERO” has come to save us and set us free!
HALLELUJAH!
