O THE BLOOD OF JESUS

O THE BLOOD OF JESUS

In the world today, blood usually has a negative connotation, it is associated with death and destruction; however, the side we often ignore is that blood also gives life. Blood donation saves lives and the blood running in our veins keeps us alive. But beyond the blood of man is the Blood of Jesus which does not stain but cleanses.  “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1: 7 ESV

Wow! The Blood of Jesus cleanses; it does not stain but it purifies us and washes away our sins. The Blood of Jesus will never lose its power and although it was shed thousands of years ago, it still speaks today. “…and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.” Hebrews 12:24 ESV The Blood of Jesus does not have a shelf life and it cannot expire, it still cleanses and gives life.

Prior to when Jesus died on the Cross, people used the blood of animals as a temporary atonement for their sin, but because man has a sinful nature, they would still return to their sin and sacrifice animals over and over. God being good had mercy on man and sent His only Son, who walked on the earth blameless and without sin and was crucified on Golgotha hill, to die for our sins. It is because of the Blood that Jesus shed on the cross of Calvary that there is now no need to shed the blood of animals as the blood of Jesus is a permanent atonement for our sins and He is called the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. “The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 ESV Through the Blood of Jesus, our debt has been paid, we are drawn closer to God and we are free.

Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, man has been in a fallen state, and no matter how many animal sacrifices were made, we would still be in that state but through the death and resurrection of Jesus our debt has been PAID IN FULL. “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2: 13-14 NIV The Blood of Jesus has taken away all our sins and our debts under the law, because of this we have grace. God loves us so much that he did not make us repay our own debt, it is not something that we can even repay and this is why we need Jesus.

As our debt has been paid, we are drawn closer to God and we have direct access to Him through Jesus Christ His Son. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ, for himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.”  Ephesians 2:13 – 16 ESV  The Blood of Jesus has cleansed and purified us so we can stand before our Heavenly Father reconciled, through Jesus.

And finally through the Blood of Jesus we are free from sin and death has no hold on us. “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 ESV “So if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed.” John 8:36  ESV There is power in the Blood of Jesus and we have been given freedom from slavery, it does not mean literal slavery but slavery to sin and cares of this world. We are free from sin and all chains have been broken, so why are we still living in shackles and chains? Jesus died and shed his blood on the cross, and said “It is finished.”  John 19:30 ESV this includes our sins, worries, sicknesses, sorrows and everything that is not of God. Whosoever the Son sets free is free indeed and it is time for us to live and walk in that freedom.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 ESV

Happy Easter Everyone.
