OUR GOD IS A GENEROUS GOD

OUR GOD IS A GENEROUS GOD

Nobody really wants to befriend or be around stingy or miserly people. In my part of the world, Nigeria, as a whole and particularly in the south western part, all kinds of not very nice terms are used to describe people that are perceived to be miserly in nature. But a generous and open handed person has many friends.

We have just celebrated Christmas and there is nothing that speaks of God’s generosity than the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, given to all mankind. There is nothing that can compare to this act of generousity from God.

When Adam fell in the garden of Eden, the original plan of God for mankind was foiled. God wanted intimacy and fellowship with us. But that relationship was destroyed. From that time on God’s mission was to be reconciled again to man. But His chosen people the Israelites kept missing it. God wanted to be everything to them but they were not having any of that. They first went for judges amongst themselves and then they started asking the prophet Samuel to give them a king just like other nations around them. God warned them against it but let them have their way. “But when they said “Give us a king to lead us” this displeased Samuel, so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.” 1 Samuel 8:6-9 NIV

This is exactly how God wants to be everything to us but for the most part we are busy getting dizzy over things that should naturally come to us. God wants us to prioritise Him in our lives. This is what Jesus has to say about that. “So don’t worry about these things, saying, “What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:31 – 34 NLT

Jesus has come to restore intimacy between God and mankind. Therefore we should always feel free to talk to our Heavenly Father about absolutely anything.

Rather than start worrying about the coming year, let us focus on God and His beautiful, extravagant, generous gift to us all – Jesus Christ our LORD.

God had only one Son, and He gave that one Son up for us. If God could do that is there anything that He would still be holding back from us? I doubt that very much. “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” Romans 8:32 NLT

As we look forward to 2024, be assured that it will be a great year for us because our Father, who loves us very deeply will hold no good thing back from us.

In the year 2024, we must learn to ask God for all the help we need. He it is that we should look to. The arm of flesh will only fail. “O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will be gracious if you ask for help. He will surely respond to the sound of your cries.” Isaiah 30:19 NLT

Our God is a generous God. Ask of Him. He will freely give. “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”  2 Corinthians 9 :8 NLT

Therfore let us end this year on a note of praise and Thanksgiving, as we have so much to be grateful for.

HAVE A TRULY BLESSED 2024!
