SHAKE YOUR TAMBOURINES!
SHAKE YOUR TAMBOURINES!!!
Yaaaay!!! It’s time to shake our tambourines and literally make a song and dance about it.
Yes it’s a mighty BIG DEAL!!!
That’s right……..singing and dancing……..
There are a number of reasons why we sing and dance.
When there is victory, people sing and dance. 1 Samuel 18:6
When a child is born, there is always rejoicing and celebration Luke 2:13-14
When there is a deliverance, singing and dancing abound. Exodus 15:20-21
Football club supporters have full bands who sometimes travel around the globe with them to play and sing in order to encourage their teams when the matches are in progress. (At some tournaments though; like world cup matches NO instruments are allowed into the stadiums)
Similarly, birthdays, promotions, successes, house warmings, graduations, and even coronations are all celebrated amidst much feasting, singing and dancing sometimes over extended periods of time.
However, I discovered that singing and dancing are also serious weapons – of warfare or if you like; of mass destruction of the enemies of our souls.
“Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;
To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; Psalms 149:6 KJV
When we bring God high praises it’s like holding unto a sharp sword. As we praise Him, vengeance is being executed upon our enemies; while chains and fetters of iron are being used to bind the wicked.
HALLELUJAH!!!
In Isaiah 30:32 ( NEW LIVING TRANSLATION – NLT) it is written as follows:
“And every blow of the rod of punishment,
Which the Lord will lay on them,
Will be to the music of Israel’s tambourines and lyres;
And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight Assyria.”
The Assyrians were enemies of Israel and God told the Israelites that every time they would sing and make music to Him on the tambourines and other musical instruments; He would strike the Assyrians with blows for punishment. And the Lord did just that!
“And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword”. 2 Chronicles 32:21 KJV
We are Gods’ s “Israel” today. Therefore every shake and shiver of our tambourines is a lash of punishment on our enemies. And they will be put to shame. Ha! Ha!
Quite frankly, tis *music* in my ears to hear that when we praise God He is dealing ever so severely with our enemies.
Then I believe it is the time to absolutely intensify our praises and make a song and dance about it too.
And while we are at it, let’s get ourselves some tambourines!
