THE GENEROSITY OF GOD

THE GENEROSITY OF GOD

How generous is our God!!!

I read in the 16th Chapter of Exodus about how God provided manna and quail for 40 years for the children of Israel.

Here are some things that struck me and led me to thinking of how generous God really is.

Absolutely all the Israelites in the wilderness were provided for and they had more than enough for their needs. For those who were bold and strong enough to take a lot;  there was enough for them. For those who were too timid and reserved to stretch; the little they took was also enough. No one was cheated. And everybody was satisfied. (On boldness and strength, if you dare to stretch God will fill you up. – A story for another day.)

God gave them the manna, fresh every day except for the day before the Sabbath when He gave them a double portion to keep. And God did this for 40 whole years! He did not get tired, bored or distracted. How kind and generous!

In the 23rd Psalm, we see another display of God’s generosity when He sets a table before us in the very presence of our enemies. Our very own special buffet! Let us then “come to His table where He will feed us from the abundance of His own house and let us drink from His river of delights.” Psalm 36:8 KJV

I observed that God commands on us fruitfulness,  multiplication and abundance. Genesis 9:7.  This tells me that  He does not do things in halves. No small measures for my God. He goes all the way. He gave His ONLY  Son to die for sinners, when we did not even acknowledge Him. What manner of love is this? I call it mind blowing.

His steadfast and deep love, it never ceases

His mercies, they endure forever,

His faithfulness,  it reaches to the clouds,

His righteousness is like mighty mountains,

His Grace, it abounds towards us,

His peace, it extends like a river,

His favour, it encompasses like a shield

His Joy, it’s full, it’s contagious,  it spreads!!

And because God is generous He wants us to do great and generous things too, just like Him. We really should not be shrinking back. The bigger the dream, the better. God has our back all the way. After all He is encouraging us to go all out!

“Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited “. Isaiah  54: 2 – 3 KJV

Get on with that expansion project already. God is calling you to it. And He is assuring you thus: “Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more and No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.  Isaiah 54: 4 & 17 KJV

So what are you waiting for?  Let us embrace the generous gifts that our generous God so lovingly gives to us. And then let us like Him be generous to those around us!
