THE POWER OF OUR WORDS

THE POWER OF OUR WORDS

One of the principal things that keeps us under God’s protection is speaking RIGHT WORDS. This is not the ONLY thing, but it is a VITAL and major rule that must be put into action to bring about the full protection that God provides for us. Proverbs 21:23 tells us,

“Whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.” (English Standard Version- ESV)

How much clearer than this, can the word of God be? If we keep our mouths from speaking perverseness, then our tongues, by speaking only RIGHT WORDS, will keep our souls from trouble. Proverbs 6:2 says,

“Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.” KJV

The words we speak will either work for or against us depending on whether or not we are speaking blessings or curses. To bless means to say good things about something or someone. In other words speaking positively and in agreement with God’s word. To curse means to say bad or evil things about something or someone. In other words speaking negatively or in opposition to God’s word.  Proverbs 12:13 & 14 says,   “An evil man is [dangerously] ensnared by the transgression of his lips,But the righteous will escape from trouble.  A man will be satisfied with good(How?) from the fruit of his words…” (AMP)

Whether or not a person believes God’s word does not diminish the TRUTH of God’s word. There are people who do not believe in the very existence of God, but this does not alter the TRUTH that there is a God, Creator of the whole universe.

Proverbs 13:3 says, “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”  (AMP) . What this is saying in essence is that if we keep our mouths from speaking negatively and guard our words carefully, we will be satisfied with good and avoid destruction.  Furthermore Proverbs 18:21 says,  Death and life are in the POWER of the TONGUE; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” KJV

We must believe this truth in our hearts before we begin to speak forth words of faith. Let us put away perverse speech and endeavour to speak blessings always no matter how hard it may seem. It will get easier in time.

If you ever feel moody, down or depressed ;the appropriate response should be to speak God’s word . Proverbs 15:23 says,

“A man has JOY (how?) by the ANSWER of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” KJV

How to respond to depression when it comes knocking will determine whether or not it will come on in and make itself at home, or if satan will continue on down the road to another person’s house to try and devour them. We are told in Proverbs 16: 23 & 24 that.

“The heart of the wise teacheth his MOUTH and adds learning to his lips. Pleasant WORDS are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” KJV

We must learn how to speak words that will build us up and encourage us. We can do this by filling our hearts with the GOOD TREASURE of the word of God by reading, meditating and studying the word of God while prayerfully attending to be doers and not hearers only.

Making a habit of positively and regularly confessing the word of God in good and unpleasant situations is something that most of us need to spend more time doing, for without confession there can be NO salvation. Did we not have to resist the lies of the devil when he kept coming to us and telling us  “you are not really saved, you just let your emotions run away last night at church. You don’t really believe all that church stuff, do you? Those Christians are just a bunch of FANATICS?” Did we not SPEAK our FAITH against all those lies of the enemy, before we received the peace and assurance of God in our hearts? Gritty-Power-Lips-The-willPower-Method®Exactly! We needed to CONFESS our faith constantly and consistently without wavering, before we received the peace and assurance of our salvation. So why is it so hard for us to BELIEVE with all our hearts, the rest of God’s words in other areas of our lives? Let us not be turned off any longer to the TRUTH of God’s word, because a few have abused and distorted words like PROFESSION and CONFESSION and POSITIVE SPEAKING.

Hebrews 10:23 tells us that we need to hold fast to the PROFESSION of our faith. To profess means “to declare openly”; “to affirm” or “to announce”. We must learn to speak “right words” as our words are very powerful. And let us not be discouraged as we wait patiently in order that we may receive what was promised, for HE is faithful that promised.
