THE SUPPORT WE NEED

THE SUPPORT WE NEED

One afternoon, being filled with gratitude, I began thanking my Heavenly Father for, well…, for just about everything.

I was thanking Him for

The gift of life

The gift of righteousness

His goodness

His kindness

His tender mercies

His love

His care…

And then I heard myself thank Him for His support. And I thought to myself, “That’s a new one”. I am always quick to say that I have a very supporive family. But I have never once thought of God in that light. So I started trying to unpack God as being supportive to me and the first thing that popped into my mind was “when my heart is overwhelmed, He leads me to the rock that is higher than I.” Then I remembered the scripture: “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”Psalms 61:2 KJV Alright, so I already saw that whenever I was overwhelmed and  I ran to God He was supporting me.

What then is support? There are all kinds of support like financial, emotional, invaluable, government, child support and so on. In a nutshell I will describe support as help and comfort  that one receives at a time when it is needed. Support is also something or someone a person can lean on to keep them from falling. Something or someone that upholds them. Ultimately support can mean to carry.

As I began to unpack support, I clearly saw that God has been an amazing support to me. God has been my help, He has comforted me, He has kept me from falling and He has carried me.

Dear friends, God is saying this to us in his Word. “I am the LORD your God. I am holding your hand, so don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.” Isaiah 41:13 Contemporary English Version This year, let us take God at His Word and let Him help us.

It is so easy to become overwhelmed these days. But we must know and be assured that God is not unaware of our daily struggles and He has made Himself available to us at such times; available to help and comfort us, no matter how tough it gets out there. “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3 NLT This year let us find comfort in God and especially so because people are going through their own issues and they might not be able to give us the much needed comfort we seek.

This year 2025, God is saying to each and every one of us that He is the support we need.

“Listen to me, descendants of Jacob, all you who remain in Israel. I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” Isaiah 46: 3 – 4 NLT

God is there to carry us through out our lives. It does not matter how far gone we are on this journey called life. God will carry us. He said so Himself and He cannot lie.

Many of us have our own support system consisting of siblings, neighbours, close friends, classmates, colleagues at work or church members. And that is alright. But we must know that there is only so much that they can do. Sometimes they wish to do more but are themselves in need of support.

Let us therefore make God the centre of our support system. He will never let us down.

GOD IS THE SUPPORT WE NEED NOW!
