THERE ARE BETTER NEW DAYS AHEAD
THERE ARE BETTER NEW DAYS AHEAD!
There is one of my favourite songs titled “The way we were” originally sang by Barbara Streisand. There was a cover by Gladys Knight where she said everyone was talking about the Good Old days. Her words had the connotation that everything was better in the past. She made references to warmer winters, greener grasses, bluer skies and even brighter smiles.
I feel that most people believe that the days of old were definitely better. (and even more so in my country Nigeria, as the fuel pump price was increased yet again, this morning).
The Word of God encourages us to see better days ahead. It is not even wise to remain in a place of regret. The emotion of regret is bad for mental health and can have debilitating consequences on one’s physical health as well. Overall it can lead to depression. May that not be our portion.
It can never be over emphasised that the Word of God is alive. If we immerse ourselves in it, it has the power to transform our lives completely. “God’s word is alive and powerful! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.” Hebrews 4:12 CEV
We have some scriptures that encourage us to quit looking back at the past. We must know that it is difficult to make progress if we keep looking back.
The Word of God says “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43: 18-19 NIV
God wants us to look forward to better new things He has planned out for us rather than for us to stay fixated on the past. And if you ask me, remaining in the past will cause us to miss out on the better things that God has prepared for our future. Note that we must go through wildernesses and wastelands. If we are experiencing such now, let us be expectant of the great things that lie ahead.
We are further encouraged in the Word of God that whatever we are facing now is really temporary. It cannot last forever. “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4: 17 – 18 NLT
Personally, I prefer to stay out of conversations that are constantly complaining about and condemning my country for example. That in itself is draining. And because I do not have any answers, I just commit all to God, I cast my cares upon Him and I begin to praise Him. This is not always easy because being overwhelmed is never far away I tell you. But I just never give up and I continue to put my trust in God.
Dear sisters and brothers, Apostle Paul sums it all up this way: “So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!
Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.” Hebrews 10: 35-36 NLT
We cannot lose hope now. We have come this far. In just a little while everything will be fine.
Let us trust God now like never before.
God loves us to the point where He sent His only Son, JESUS, to die a gruesome death for us. Please let us spare a moment to thank God for this. His thoughts towards us are always good.
God is bigger than all our problems anyway so please let us trust Him and look forward to better new days ahead because they will surely come!
ALL WILL BE WELL.
