TUNED TO HIS FREQUENCY.
TUNED TO HIS FREQUENCY.
A radio is designed to receive many frequencies. However, if you want to listen to a particular station, you must tune in to the correct frequency. Otherwise, the station may be broadcasting clearly, but you will miss everything it is saying.
Recently, this picture came to mind as I reflected on David’s life.
When the prophet Samuel arrived at Jesse’s house to anoint Israel’s next king, Jesse presented all his sons except one – David.
David was still out in the fields looking after his father’s sheep. It was only after Samuel insisted that Jesse finally sent for him. “And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.” 1 Samuel 16: 11 KJV.
David wasn’t networking. He wasn’t trying to attract attention. He wasn’t positioning himself for promotion and he was certainly not positioning himself to be the next king of Israel. He was simply being faithful where his father had placed him.
And God found him exactly where he was.
It made me wonder: Where did David’s remarkable confidence and trust in God come from?
Perhaps it came as a result of where and how he spent his days. David was faithfully tending his father’s sheep. Away from noise and distractions, he spent long hours in the fields. Those quiet moments would have provided opportunities to meditate on God’s Word, to worship Him on the harp, and to grow in his knowledge of the LORD. This was how David was tuning into God’s frequency.
God referred to David as a man after His own heart. “After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’” Acts 13:22 NIV
God knew He could trust David to listen to Him. Long before David became known to the nation of Israel, he was tuning his heart to God’s frequency.
I also noticed an interesting detail here. When David finally appeared before Samuel, the Bible describes him as healthy and handsome:
“And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.” 1 Samuel 16:12 (KJV)
It immediately reminded me of these words:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:20–22 (KJV)
What a beautiful reminder that God’s Word does more than instruct and teach us. It nourishes us. It strengthens us. And it shapes us from the inside out.
Today, many people spend enormous amounts of energy trying to become visible—chasing likes, followers and online attention. But is that really God’s way?
We are encouraged to promote ourselves, build networks and make ourselves known. But while there is nothing wrong with making good use of opportunities, David reminds us that there is something even more important. Tuning into God’s frequency.
Before we seek the world’s attention, let us seek the face of God.
Before we worry about being noticed, let us make sure we are listening to the One who will never lead us astray.
Before we ask, “Who knows me?” or “Who liked or viewed my post?” perhaps we should ask,
“Am I tuned to God’s frequency?”
David tuned his heart to God, and at the appointed time, God Himself broadcast David to the nation of Israel.
God has a remarkable habit of meeting people where they are faithfully doing what He has placed before them. Not because He cannot find them elsewhere…. but because faithfulness is never invisible to God. “Do you see a person who is efficient in his work? He will serve kings. He will not serve unknown people.” Proverbs 22:29 GWT
Dear friend, where are you serving today? And how are you serving?
Perhaps it is an assignment that God has placed in your hands; do it faithfully and diligently.
Do not be overly concerned about whether or not anyone notices. God does. And ultimately that is what matters.
TUNE YOUR HEART TO HIS FREQUENCY.
…and He will find you there.
