WATCH THAT DOOR

WATCH THAT DOOR.
Everybody likes open doors.
Imagine just stepping off the bus and the heavens begin to pour out torrents of blessings on you! The first thing you will look for will be shelter. And an open door would be very welcome at such a time.
Open doors speak of access and open doors speak of blessings. But it is also the open door that lets the villain in.
The way we would like to leave our door or window open for proper ventilation, but are careful enough to use fine wire mesh to prevent insects flying in at will, is the same way we should be cautious before and when we open our mouths to speak. Our words have consequences.
Our mouths are doors and the bible has several warnings about using them inappropriately. “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” Proverbs 13:3 God’s Word Translation
The way we use our mouths will determine what will come into and what will go out of our lives. When we speak good, we invite good things. But when we speak evil, we set ourselves up for disaster.
Some of us have been so careless and reckless with our words so much so that many beautiful things have become undone in our lives. I pray we obtain mercy and enjoy restoration in Jesus name.
The mouth has the ability to kill or to make alive. We can literally talk ourselves and others to death or life with our mouths. It is that powerful. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21 KJV
It is always wise to process our thoughts before we speak. A mouth that constantly speaks negativity will eventually reap those exact fruits at harvest time.
We should use our mouths to bless, build up and encourage ourselves and others. Yes we can bless and encourage ourselves. After all King David did just that. “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6 KJV
Encouraging oneself (or even others) in the LORD, requires that we speak positively to ourselves and to them. It also requires that we are in touch with God’s promises for us so that we can speak them over ourselves.
NOTHING ENCOURAGES LIKE THE PROMISES OF GOD. They are life and have the ability to revive us. “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?” Psalm 56: 3-4 NLT
Imagine always speaking harshly to our children or to our spouses! What benefit would that ever produce? A heated and most uncomfortable household where loved ones are not happy to come.
How about always being verbally abusive to members of our domestic staff or office staff? It will never produce good fruits. It is actually wrong to curse others.
“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” James 3:9-10 NIV
We are called to a ministry of encouragement. But how can we be useful if our words are always critical, harsh and filled with discouragement? “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” Ephesians 4:29. NLT
Dear friends, we do not have to wait to get to our places of worship on Sunday or any other day to be blessed. We must begin to speak God’s blessings upon ourselves and our families. We have been given the power to do so through the doors of our mouths. We can already be blessings to others just by making sure we speak carefully chosen words from our mouths.
LET US WATCH THE DOORS OF OUR MOUTHS.
DO NOT USE THEM CARELESSLY.
