GOD’S TIMING
GOD’S TIMING
The year 2020 has been a pretty unexpected year for most. I remember towards the end of last year (2019), we all planned for the ‘new year’ and had great expectations for it. All the planning would have ranged from companies strategizing to make profit, to churches aiming to grow more roots in their communities and even to you and I, planning to develop in or personal lives. But then 2020 came, and a Global Pandemic is something most (if not all) of us did not plan for. The Pandemic also changed the course of many of our lives, most of the things we thought would take place this year did not.
Many times this year, I found myself pondering upon the reality, that life, is all about God’s timing. I often hear people talk about God’s timing being the best, it is even somewhat referred to several times in the bible.
In Isaiah 60: 22B (NLT), the bible says, “At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen.” In Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT), the bible says, “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”
My favourite one is in Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT), “For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” It is true that God makes everything beautiful in its time, but another interesting trait of God is that we never really know what God is up to. Ecclesiastes 3:11 even says that “people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” That being so, something I and many people I know, struggle with is our inability to tell God’s time. It would have been amazing if there was a huge clock in the sky that chimed whenever it was “God’s Time”, but this is not the case. How then can you tell when it is God’s time? The bible has made many promises about your life and future, but when are they coming? Or better yet, you want all these promises to come to pass right now, so you are praying, fasting, meditating on God’s word and yet it does not happen. Any person would be downcast, thinking ‘Has God forgotten me’, ‘I prayed, I fasted and it is as if God did not even hear my prayers.’
I am not able to tell you when God’s time is, but I can advise you on when it probably is not, with this guide I have posted:-
“If you have to go through a short cut to get what God has already promised you, it most likely is not God’s time.”
A perfect example illustrating my little piece of advice, is from the lives of Abraham and Sarah. God promised Abraham, that he would become the father of many nations (Genesis 15:4-6), He did not say the exact time or age but He made the promise to Abraham. Time went on and Abraham (then Abram) and Sarah (then Sarai) were still without children of their own. To speed things up, Sarai then gave unto Abram her maidservant Hagar, to bear a child through her. Hagar conceived and bore Ishmael (Genesis 16), which made Abram become a father, just as God had promised, but this was not at God’s time or according to God’s plan.
In Genesis 21:1 (NLT) the bible says that “The LORD kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised.” Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90 when Isaac was born, which was according to God’s plan and at His time (Genesis 21). To us humans (even in that era) 90 years and 100 years seemed almost impossible to bear children, but that was God’s promise. God had promised Abraham that he would become the father of nations through his own child, and he being a faithful God, kept his word.
I still cannot exactly tell you God’s timing for anything, but I can offer hope that when God has already made a promise, it will surely come to pass in His time. It really is not our place to speed things up, God is faithful and He keeps to His Word. 2 Corinthans 1:20 (ESV) says that “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.”
I encourage us all to be assured that the promises of God are Yes and Amen!, they will come to pass in His time.
WISHING YOU ALL A GREAT NEW YEAR IN GOD’S TIMING.
