NONE CAN COMPARE TO JESUS.
I had a shocking revelation just a few days ago. And it was that “What if God the Son (Jesus) said “NO” to God the Father”? My initial emotion was of being shaken to my core. That would mean no hope for us whatsoever. Imagine a life of hopelessness! We would be eternally condemned to hell. Satan would have a field day with us. Demons would prey on us endlessly. It would have been a torturous life to live. I just lay there gobsmacked! But Thank God for JESUS, over and over again!
And as the magnitude of the gift of Jesus to mankind began to dawn on me, I became filled with adoration, appreciation, gratitude, humility and praise all at once. I just kept remembering the following scripture. “He said, “Abba! Father! You can do anything. Take this cup [of suffering] away from me. But let your will be done rather than mine.” Mark 14: 36 Gods Word Translation. Jesus was fully God and fully man. He knew what was going to happen and as a man He would have been overwhelmed and afraid even. The anticipation of the pain and suffering made Him seek out His Father in prayer. His Father had performed all kinds of miracles so perhaps Jesus was thinking maybe there is still one more miracle that could reconcile mankind to God the Father without the Son having to go as a substitute? But He was quick to concede to the Fathers will. He was obedient. And that obedience is why we have salvation today. “Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” Romans 5: 18-19 NLT. This is how we have been blessed with a gift of righteousness.
Jesus had a will just like we do. God made it so. God never forces anyone to do anything. He wants us to make choices albeit right ones. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed:” Deuteronomy 30:19 English Revised Version. So clearly Jesus made the choice, to become the sacrificial lamb for all mankind. He did not have to do this. But He chose to. We owe our very lives to Jesus. He came to save us, to redeem us and to reconcile us back to God. Jesus knew how much God cherished the relationship He had with Adam in the garden, after all He was right there with them at the beginning. So when it happened as decided in heaven that it was time for God the Son to come as man, Jesus knew well what it would entail. But when He put on flesh the very thought of the horrific death awaiting Him was not pleasant. He needed and even got angelic assistance to prepare for what was ahead of Him on that Cross. “Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.” Luke 22: 43 – 44 NLT. And still, He made the choice to obey God, the Father. What manner of love indeed!
Therefore as we settle into the journey of this New Year 2022, let us come with an uninhibited and unbridled attitude of appreciation and thanksgiving for The Love of God manifested through Jesus Christ for us all.
