THE LIGHT OF JESUS IS STILL SHINING

THE LIGHT OF JESUS IS STILL SHINING

The euphoria that usually comes with the festivities at Christmas and the New Year is gradually wearing (if not completely worn) off. In Lagos, Nigeria where I live, for instance, one tends to enjoy relative ease of vehicular movement over the holidays, so it is easier to do a lot in a short time compared to the nightmare road users have to face on the regular chock-a-block of Lagos roads. But the nightmares are back! My sister messaged me today and said she spent an hour and a half on what is usually a twenty five minute journey. The current fuel queues make it worse. The bus stops are heaving with commuters who are waiting to catch a bus while the buses are still on fuel queues. Even the intensity of the Harmattan increased this morning and the early morning darkness lingered longer than normal.

I have not come to spell gloom and doom but to cheer us up by reminding us that the Light of Jesus is still shining no matter how it looks right now. You see, light is a good and beautiful thing. And Jesus is the Light of the world!

Workers of evil and wicked deeds carry out their acts under the cover of darkness. People grope in the dark. People fall in the dark. There is loss of vision in the dark.  There is confusion in the dark.  There is no progress in the dark. “Jesus replied, ‘My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.’” John 12:35 NLT

But strike a match, flip the switch, put on the light and there is instant clarity. There is no more fear. We do not fall again. We see the way and so we walk with precision. That is what Jesus does when we let Him in.

He takes away every fear. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NLT

He will not let us fall. “Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” Psalm 37:24 NLT

Jesus will light our path so we do not lose our way. “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” John 8:12 NLT

Dear friend, we might have turned out the lights and put down the Christmas trees.  But the light of Jesus is still shining. His light NEVER goes out. Once again, I say, we are not ignorant of the evil that goes on in the dark but we are confident of the LIGHT that will expose every evil deed carried out in the dark.

Let us turn on the light in our hearts, in our homes and in our lives today. Let the Light of His word guide our feet and light our paths.

JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD AND HIS LIGHT IS STILL SHINING!
